2009 Apocalyptic Movie
January 13th, 2010We kicked off the year with the release of Knowing and then of course Terminator Salvation. Which although it has divided fans over its lack of humour in comparison to the original and its sequels, overall it was quite a good film that showcased some spectacular special effects. Looking ahead we have the upcoming releases of 9, the animated post-apocalyptic movie that features the voices of Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connelly, and of course the movie adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer prize winning novel The Road, which are released in September and October respectively.

In November we have the release of 2012, the all star apocalyptic disaster movie that’s based on the Mayan predictions of the end of the world. This is set to be one of the biggest box office hits of 2009, although many feel that Transformers 2 will take the top spot at year end. And if all that wasn’t enough… we also have the release of the post-apocalyptic comedy movie Zombieland, which stars Bill Murray as one of a group of survivors in a world that’s been entirely taken over by flesh eating zombies. This movie is set for release in October.

Fans need also not worry about the coming New Year as this trend is set to continue into 2010 with the release of The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington, who must trek across a post-apocalyptic America in order to ensure the survival of the human species. 2010 will also see the release of the highly anticipated new NBC show Day One, which follows a small group of survivors as they try to find the answers behind a cataclysmic event that has brought civilization to its knees.

HALLOWEEN MOVIES OF 2009
January 7th, 2010Every year, Hollywood always makes it a point to come up with Halloween movies. And there are surely no short of what they can offer.
There have already been movies that came out that are either a success or a flop. One film success so far is The Final Destination. This fourth installment of the franchise topped the North American box office in its debut and stayed there for two weeks beating out Rob Zombie’s Halloween II which unfortunately did not do well.
Another Halloween movie that did not fare well was the much promoted Jennifer’s Body which is starred by the ubiquitous Megan Fox. This is the world’s sexiest (as voted in FHM Top 100 of 2009) star’s first starring role after making it big with Transformers. Though there have been much hype surrounding the lesbian kiss between her and Amanda Seyfried, it was not enough to draw in moviegoers.
However, another Halloween movie franchise is about to hit the big screen. The Saw series have proved to be a commercial success despite poor reviews. The new movie from the franchise Saw VI is slated to be shown on October 23 and just like its predecessors, it is almost surely to be a hit.
Whether the moviegoers are just plain sick for their own good to be patronizing these kinds of gore-fest, psycho films, one thing is for sure. There’s definitely something entertaining about them and the market is pretty wide. No wonder Hollywood is tapping on this and making millions of dollars out of it. But hey, it’s a win-win for both the moviegoers and the producers.
Celebrity Gossip in September 2009
December 13th, 2009Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel Have Split The most boring romance in the history of celebrity relationships has reportedly come to an end; according to sources in the US Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have split up. Apparently the couple called it a day around a month ago, before NY Fashion Week and soon afterwards Justin was seen “clearly on the hunt” in the city chatting up several different women. Meanwhile Jessica is said to be in “severe denial” about the break-up. A close friend of the actresses said: “There’s no way of knowing if it’s a firm break up, because with them it’s so hot and cold” And in another bizarre twist, Justin is now said to be pursuing a relationship with fellow singer Rihanna. Well that’s a turn up for the books, isn’t it? During last night’s MTV VMA’s Kanye West stormed on stage while Taylor Swift was accepting her award for the Best Female Video There’s always one isn’t there?! During last night’s MTV VMA’s Kanye West stormed on stage while Taylor Swift was accepting her award for the Best Female Video. But what was Kanye so vent up about? Surely he didn’t think he deserved the award for the Best Female Video?! So what precisely was this guys problem?! Well Kanye, who was little bit worse for wear, was protesting that his good friend Beyonce, who we might add looked horrified by his outburst, should have won the award rather than Taylor. Aw, how nice of him. Oh and he’s wasted no time in issuing a half-hearted apology on his blog which read: “I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!” He said before adding, “Beyonce’s video was the best of this decade!!!! Everybody wanna boooo me but I’m a fan of real pop culture!!! I’m still happy for Taylor!!!!. I’m not crazy yall, I’m just real. Sorry for that!!! I feel really bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry!!!” Hmmm, too little, too late and too unapologetic we think, what say you? Patrick Swayze 1952- 2009 It’s been confirmed that Patrick Swayze passed away at his home in Los Angeles last night following a 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Tributes for the Dirty Dancing star have been flooding in since the news broke and during last nights Toronto Film Festival Patrick’s friend and co-star Rob Lowe said: “Patrick lived a thousand lifetimes in one lifetime. He was an expert dancer, he wrote hit songs, he starred in hit movies, he was an amazing horseman. But the thing I will remember him most for was his amazing love affair with his wife Lisa.” Meanwhile fans of the tragic actor have already started laying flowers on his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
